Profile

Dato’ Dr. Guna Sittampalam is a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist with over 45 years of experience in women’s healthcare. He serves as the Managing Director and Consultant O&G of the Damai Service Hospital (HQ) Group, where he has overseen the development of its healthcare facilities across the Klang Valley.


Dr. Guna’s career includes roles in government service, international humanitarian work, and healthcare administration. He has served as a Senior Medical Officer in the Malaysian Armed Forces, participated as a Voluntary Medical Officer at the Bangladesh war front, and was involved in initiatives related to rural and private healthcare improvement in Malaysia.


His professional interests include women’s health, maternal care, and community health initiatives. He has also been involved in the development of services at Damai Service Hospital, including programmes related to preventive healthcare and fertility services.


Dr. Guna has contributed to medical education through his involvement in training and knowledge-sharing with medical professionals. He has also participated in international medical meetings and forums as part of his engagement in professional development and global health discussions.

  • Admitted to the Academy of Medicine Malaysia (AM, Malaya) 

  • Registered Medical Practitioner – Malaysian Medical Council (MMC) and General Medical Council (UK)

Awards & Recognition

  • Captain, Malaysian Armed Forces (1972-1973): Served as Acting Major with the 5th Brigade of the Royal Malay Regiment, leading medical operations in challenging terrains of East Malaysia.

  • Voluntary Medical Officer – Bangladesh Liberation War (1970-1971): Provided critical care to over 500,000 refugees, working alongside Mother Teresa.

  • Consultant O&G, General Hospital Kuala Lumpur (1978): Appointed as Head of Department at a young age due to his expertise.
