Dr. Suppiah Shanmugam is a Consultant Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgeon with an extensive career spanning over 30 years. Currently practicing at Damai Service Hospital (HQ), Kuala Lumpur, Dr. Suppiah provides care for a range of musculoskeletal conditions, including sports injuries, arthritis, trauma, and diabetic ulcers of the extremities.
Dr. Shanmugam’s career includes his role as Chief Orthopaedic Surgeon for the Malaysian Armed Forces from 1987 to 1995. During this period, he contributed to military medicine and managed trauma cases in high-pressure environments. From 1989 to 1990, he served as the Chief Medical Officer for the Malaysian Armed Forces in Namibia, Africa, under the United Nations peacekeeping mission. He also served as an Orthopaedic Surgeon with the SWISS Medical Unit in Namibia, where he managed high-velocity injuries involving the upper and lower limbs.
Dr. Shanmugam earned his Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) from Madurai Kamaraj University, India, in 1974, and completed his Master of Surgery (M.S.) at the National University of Malaysia (UKM) in 1987. He is an Orthopaedic Specialist registered under the National Specialist Register (NSR) of Malaysia.
