Dr. Suppiah Shanmugam is a distinguished Consultant Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgeon with ith an extensive career spanning over 30 years. Currently practicing at Damai Service Hospital (HQ), Kuala Lumpur, Dr. Suppiah specializes in managing musculoskeletal conditions, including sports injuries, arthritis, trauma, and diabetic ulcers of the extremities.
Dr. Shanmugam’s career includes his role as Chief Orthopaedic Surgeon for the Malaysian Armed Forces from 1987 to 1995. During this period, he made significant contributions to military medicine, demonstrating his expertise in handling high-stress, complex trauma cases. From 1989 to 1990, he served as the Chief Medical Officer for the Malaysian Armed Forces in Namibia, Africa, under the United Nations' peacekeeping mission. He also served as an Orthopaedic Surgeon with the SWISS Medical Unit in Namibia, where he managed challenging high-velocity injuries involving the upper and lower limbs.
Dr. Shanmugam’s academic qualifications reflect his dedication to excellence. He earned his Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) from Madurai Kamaraj University, India, in 1974 and completed his Master of Surgery (M.S.) at the National University of Malaysia (UKM) in 1987. He is a recognized Orthopaedic Specialist registered under the National Specialist Register of Malaysia, underscoring his expertise and contributions to the field.
