Dr. Tan Liam Chwee is a distinguished Consultant General Surgeon with over 17 years of experience in the medical field. He specializes in a wide range of surgical procedures, including gastroscopy, colonoscopy, laparoscopic surgery, and breast surgery.
Dr. Tan Liam Chwee has an extensive educational and professional background in the field of medicine and surgery. He earned his Bachelor of Pharmacy (Hons.) from Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) in 1985, followed by a Doctor of Medicine degree from Universitas Andalas in 1993. He further advanced his knowledge and skills by obtaining a Master of Surgery (General Surgery) from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) in 2001. To specialize further, he completed a Fellowship in Minimal Access Surgery in India in 2010.
Dr. Tan was awarded the Excellent Service Award ("Melintang") by the Ministry of Health, Perak, in 2002, in recognition of his exceptional dedication to his work. After gaining significant experience, he served as a General Surgeon at Ipoh Hospital from 2001 to 2002. He then completed a subspecialty attachment in the Plastic Surgery Department at HKL in 2002 and further refined his surgical skills at Kajang Hospital from 2002 to 2003. He has been a life member of the Malaysian Medical Association since 1998 and the Endoscopic and Laparoscopic Surgeons of Asia since 2005. He became a member of the Society for Anti-Aging and Aesthetic Medicine Malaysia in 2006 and a life member of the World Association of Laparoscopic Surgeons in 2010.
Dr. Tan has made significant contributions to medical research, conducting studies and authoring papers on a wide range of topics. These include comparative bioavailability studies, treatment strategies for various types of fractures and tumours, timing of calvarial surgery, use of appendices in surgical procedures, management strategies for different conditions, and post-operative precautions. His research and publications, spanning from 1985 to 2001, reflect his ongoing commitment to learning and advancing the field of medicine.
